Puri Segara is situated about 15 minutes drive west of Lovina, the tourist center of the north. Beautiful beaches, sawas (rice-fields), plantations, mountains, temples and some nice villages and towns are close by.

More and more people are discovering this still pristine, unspoiled and authentic area of North Bali. The surroundings provide ample scope for exploring, discovery and activities.

If you’d like to make a day trip or want to go on a sightseeing tour we recommend using one of the drivers recommended by our Help Desk. They can show you the most unique places and have a lot to tell about the Balinese and their lifestyle.

Lovina

Lovina_08A

Lovina, a section of coastline several kilometers west of Singaraja, has been lightly developed with the tourist in mind. Lovina is made up of the villages of Kaliasem, Kalibukbuk, Banyualit, Anturan, Tukad Munga and Pemaron. The center is Kalibukbuk with restaurants, cafes, small shops, a market, a supermarket and even a bakery. In the center of Lovina you can find an ATM (bank). The town offers a wide choice of good restaurants serving delicious national and international cuisine.  The prices are 50 to 70% lower than in Europe!

Lovina has a number of Western-oriented physicians with a good reputation.

A five minute drive from the villa takes you to Seririt, where you can buy your groceries at the local morning market. In Seririt you will also find a supermarket, drug store, Clinic, doctors and the local police station. Seririt still is a very traditional, unspoiled place so you will hardly encounter any tourists.

Singaraja

Singaraja_6

Singaraja was once the capital of Bali and is still the largest city in North Bali. Still, you can explore different districts where Dutch settlers used to live and work. In Singaraja at the large supermarket Hardy's you will find all you need for your major shopping although Hardy's in Seririt will satisfy most of your daily shopping needs. The city is about 25 minutes drive from Puri Segara and is still the centre for the north's festivals and ceremonies

Singaraja is home to the Gedong Kirtya library. Here you will find the famous Lontar Manuscripts and lots of Balinese literature and books on the colonial period. In the port of Singaraja you can still find old warehouses from the days of Dutch colonization. There is also an authentic Chinese temple, a number of department stores, hospitals, pharmacies, banks and a large market.

monastery

Buddhist Monastery

In the hills of Banjar, about 15 minutes away, is a Buddhist monastery, Brahma Vihara Arama. This is the only Buddhist monastery in Bali. The monastery is spread over several layers and has special walls and rooms for prayer. It is also known as the small Borobodur. The monastery is inhabited by some Balinese Buddhist monks. From the hill on which the monastery is located, you have a beautiful view of the area and the sea. A visit to the monastery is easy to combine with the hot springs of Air Panas.

Hot water springs

Near the monastery, you will find the famous hot springs of Air Panas. These "hot springs" are located in the hills of the village of Banjar and are surrounded by beautiful scenery. The 38°C hot sulphurous source ends at eight carved dragonheads. The sulphurous water has a healing effect on skin diseases. Massage under the water spouts is wonderful, remember to bring your swimming costume.

Waterfalls

Approximately 20 minutes south of Singaraja is Bali's most well know waterfall  - the Git Git waterfall. A path of about 1 km with a variety of souvenir shops leads you past a coffee and a vanilla plantation to the 60-metre-high waterfall. Once you have arrived at the waterfall, you can enjoy the sights sounds and wind of the water splashing water downwards. Closer waterfalls are Sing Sing (10 minutes drive) and Aling Aling (30 minutes drive). Sekumpul Waterfall is just east of Singaraja but is a longer walk of 2 hours. This area is famous for its dolphins which can be admired every morning out in the open sea before sunrise. A local fishermen can pick you up right on the beach in front of the villa to go in search of dolphins. The large shrimp population along the coast attracts many dolphins to this area and the chance of actually seeing dolphins is 80%. The boat can be surrounded by dozens of dolphins jumping and playing. You will be picked up at 6am. The trip typically lasts for two hours.
